tame the beast withinSo many times my buttons are pushed and my inner Beast of Anger, Judgment, and Hurt Pride rear their ugly heads and I am ready to fight and cause another pain. In the beginning of my journey toward Authenticity this happened more times than not. However, after putting some peaceful strategies and practices in place, my hurtful reactions have shifted into more peaceful responses. Thus, allowing me to experience calm amidst the storm.

Here are just a few daily practices that I encourage everyone to take to keep yourself in a place of Authenticity, Inspiration and Peace.

1. Take time daily to plug into your God-Source, that Entity that is Love, Kind and Life-giving.

2. Practice deep breathing about 10 times per day. Just sit still and take 7 deep breaths. Sit back, hands on your belly, breathe in and out through your nose and close your eyes. I like to breathe in love and peace and breathe out anger, fear or s tress.

3. Eat live food regularly. Sugar and dense processed food tends to zap your energy and your ability to focus and think clearly.

4. Rise above the situation and see it from a higher perspective.

5. Exercise at least 20 to 30 minutes per day to clear your mind.

6. Journal about your joys, frustrations, hurts and insights.

7. Call forth Wisdom, Truth, Love and Peace to support you each day and prior to any encounter with another person.

8. Share your struggles and wisdom with an enlightened friend, spiritual director, mentor or coach so that you may see your situation from a different perspective.

9. Write down at least 10 things a day for which you are grateful. This will keep you in an attitude of gratitude which will flow from you into the lives of others.

10. If you are triggered in any area, try all of these practices prior to taking any written, verbal or phy sical actions.

As my favorite Sister used to say, “Becky, always keep your side of the street clean.”

If for any reason, as a leader you slip up and react first, take time to practice these steps, review your part, take personal responsibility for your side of the street, and make adjustments and amends.

The interesting thing is that when you practice these techniques daily, they become second nature and you will find yourself and your team in less drama and chaos.

Or at least your chaos and drama won’t take you out of the game as easily.
